The ‘516 Arouca’ bridge – so called because it’s 516 meters long and near the town of Arouca – is expected to open before the end of October to all those who will dare the 10 minute walk across the Paiva gorge, looking down at the fast-moving river 176 meters below through the open metal grid pathway.

One hour south of Porto, Arouca has become a hub for extreme sports and its namesake Geopark includes attractions like the Paiva Walkways, the Areinho and Vau river beaches and the “shale villages” of Alvarenga, Canelas and Espiunca in the neighbouring mountains.
